É«ÀÇÉçÇøDay of Action: 8 June

  1 June 2022

On 8 June 2022 the É«ÀÇÉçÇøwill be taking a 24-hour state-wide strike and we need you.

Last week, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøheld its Annual Conference, in which delegates and members overwhelmingly supported the PSA’s campaign to end the wages cap and subsequent ultimatum to the Perrottet Government: give our members a fair pay rise or they will take part in a state-wide Day of Action.

As a result, a motion was passed endorsing a state-wide 24-hour stop work on Wednesday 8 June 2022, for all members working across the NSW Public Sector.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøhas met with your elected Compliance Operations delegates who have endorsed the 24 hour strike on 8 June 2022.Ìý This endorsement is in line with the TfNSW Departmental Committee Delegates who endorsed this action for other areas of TfNSW.

You may be wondering how and why it has come to strike action.

The continued refusal of the Perrotett Government to rescind the wages cap has left the É«ÀÇÉçÇølittle option but to take this extraordinary action.Ìý We have in vain attempted to negotiate an Award that will ensure your real wages do not go backwards. Inflation is currently running at 5.1% yet we are repeatedly told by TfNSW they do not have authority offer anything that will result in employee related costs rising above the 2.5% unless there are cost saving measures.Ìý Further, nor can the NSW Industrial Relations Commission approve an Award which has employee related costs rising above 2.5%.

We are one month out from when the TfNSW and RMS Awards expire, the Perrotett Government has not engaged with the É«ÀÇÉçÇøon the wages cap, as a result the offer from TfNSW remains to be a wage rise of 2.5%(including superannuation).Ìý The offer fails to recognise that you have kept this state running.

Though you are transitioning to NHVR on 1 August 2022 this will directly impact your salary on transition; your real wages will either go backwards or an Award may not be negotiated prior to transition, this means you will not have the potential to get a real wage rise until mid 2023 when the Annual Wage Review occurs.Ìý It is therefore essential that all members take part in this action and forfeit a days wages to secure a fair pay rise that keeps up with the rapidly increasing cost of living.

Day of action – What is Happening?

On Wednesday 8 June 2022, É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers at TfNSW, including Compliance Operations, will stop work take a stand together with the rest of the É«ÀÇÉçÇømembership and demand the Perrottet Government get rid of the wages cap.Ìý All Compliance Operations are directed to support the 24-hour stop work on Wednesday 8 June 2022.

This means you stop work on 8 June at 12:00am until 11:59pm on 8 June 2022.

É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers will be rallying in Hyde Park Sydney before marching to Macquarie Street to make our claim heard.Ìý If you are in a regional location you find a meeting place .

What are my rights when taking industrial action?

You are not breaking the law when taking industrial action. You are following lawful directions from your union.

If issues are raised with you about your compliance with the direction to strike, provide the person raising the issues with you with a copy of this bulletin and politely explain that you have been directed by your union to stop work for 24 hours.

Remember, only É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers can take action. If your colleagues have not yet joined, make sure they do as soon as possible! They can join .Ìý

If you have any concerns leading into to or following our Day of Action we encourage you to contact the É«ÀÇÉçÇøMember Support Centre on 1300 772 6749.
