Women’s Unit
The Women’s Unit is committed to advancing the interests of the Union’s female members and addressing issues that affect women across the membership and the wider industrial landscape.
What We Do
The Unit undertakes research into gender equity and women’s workplace issues. This includes analysing the union’s workforce profile and contributing to major initiatives such as the Premier’s commitments on flexible work practice within NSW Government departments and authorities.
Working closely with the Women’s Council Committee, the Unit develops policy on women’s industrial matters and advocates for women’s rights through submissions and collaboration with other unions and community organisations.
We also provide specialist advice to industrial staff on issues such as discrimination and harassment, represent women members within the broader union movement, and work with delegates to identify and respond to emerging trends affecting women at work.
Key Areas of Focus
- Discrimination
- Gender pay gap
- Flexible work practices
Our Objective
To raise the profile of women’s issues across the Union, recognising that women make up around 60 per cent of our membership in metropolitan and regional New South Wales.
