Unions secure 4.6 percent pay rise for disability workers
CPSU NSW has secured a 4.6 per cent pay rise for disability workers covered by the Community Living Award and the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.
The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) successfully negotiated the increase on behalf of the CPSU NSW and other affiliate unions as part of the Fair Work Commission鈥檚 Annual Wage Review, and will come as welcome relief for workers in the industry and household incomes battling to keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living.
CPSU NSW Assistant Secretary, Troy Wright, said 鈥渋t鈥檚 a fact that employer groups opposed this increase with some actually arguing for no increase to award wages.鈥
鈥淲e鈥檙e talking about workers in front line disability services, who鈥檝e put themselves and their families at significant risk during the pandemic to provide essential care for incredibly vulnerable people.鈥
鈥淥f course they deserve a fair pay rise.鈥
鈥淎t the end of the day, this decision shows that it鈥檚 unions who stick up for the interests of workers.鈥
鈥淚f you like the pay rise, join the CPSU NSW,鈥 Troy said.
