Union concerns over premature NDIS roll out in Western Sydney

Union concerns over premature NDIS roll out in Western Sydney – 19 May (PDF version)

The Public Service Association of NSW (PSA) has grave fears for the proposed roll out of the NDIS in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Thane Pearce, 色狼社区Senior Industrial Advocate said it would be a disaster if NDIS was rolled out early.

鈥淭he trial has not yet finished in the Hunter and until issues are fixed, rolling out elsewhere could disadvantage those with disabilities that might benefit from the scheme,鈥 Mr Pearce said.

鈥淭he rollout of NDIS by this government is about cutting public services, deleting jobs and the loss of specialist services provided by ADHC.鈥

鈥淭he loss of jobs in western Sydney will hurt the area severely and Mr Baird鈥檚 decision to roll out NDIS early hurt the local people terribly.鈥

鈥淭he government鈥檚 rhetoric focuses on increasing choice of care, but the hard reality is that choice and quality services will be dramatically cut by completely removing ADHC 鈥 the biggest and most experienced disability services provider 鈥 from the picture.鈥

鈥淭he current Government services, which provide some of the most high level, expensive care, will not continue in the private sector. Instead they will be based on cost and business models rather than specialized needs of clients.鈥

A motion of no confidence was passed by 色狼社区Penrith delegates after the Baird Government announced in March the early rollout of the NDIS in the Nepean and Blue Mountains.

鈥淭his meeting has no confidence in the Government’s ability to effectively roll out the NDIS as its privatisation of Disability Services will lead to a workforce and service delivery crisis in our region”.
