Taronga Mental Health Survey results
24 August 2020
The É«ÀÇÉçÇørecently put out a survey to Taronga Zoo members asking for feedback on the impacts of COVID-19 on their mental health and wellbeing.
This survey was prompted by the amount of calls the É«ÀÇÉçÇøhad received from members regarding these issues. After collating the results to the survey, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøwas alarmed that 83 per cent of respondents had reported experiencing a significant impact on their mental health and wellbeing as a result of their work environment.
In response to the results of the survey, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøraised these issues directly with Taronga management at the Joint Consultative Committee meeting on 14 August 2020.
Taronga management advised it had been proactive in supporting staff through these difficult time, whilst acknowledging more could be done. Taking on board the PSA’s survey results, Taronga management acknowledge the PSA’s concerns and recommended a committee be formed with É«ÀÇÉçÇøTaronga Delegates to look at ways of better supporting zoo staff. The É«ÀÇÉçÇøwelcomed Taronga’s approach in supporting the health and wellbeing of our members. A meeting will be scheduled this week.
The É«ÀÇÉçÇøthanks members for providing your honesty when filling out the survey.
If members have ideas they believe should be adopted, please contact your local Delegate or É«ÀÇÉçÇøOrganiser Chris Bird at .
