TAFE – Telematics consultation update
25 June 2019
The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU-NSW) met with TAFE earlier this month in regarding to the introduction of telematics for TAFE vehicles next month.
This was part of consultative requirements under the Workplace Surveillance Act.
We procured some useful information which will be relevant to some members, and information that is to date not yet known to the majority of affected staff.
Information sought from the CPSU-NSW meeting with TAFE
No data will be collected until the system comes on-line, however the navigation can be used now.
TAFE will communicate full information prior to the system going live on 31 July 2019.
Telematics systems can gather data such as vehicle activity, vehicle location, driver behaviour and engine diagnostics. Access to this data will be strictly controlled and is for fleet management purposes. Standard trip information used will be – purpose, kilometres and location.
Once the system is active you will need to log in. Drivers can adjust the position/angle as well as notifications, volume etc. Issues around safety, for example, excessive speeding may be raised by fleet management, with line managers. Items such as minor speeding will not be used.
