TAFE Facilities Management & Logistics and Student Services Branch restructures

  12 August 2021

The CPSU NSW has recently contacted TAFE in relation to a number of issues that have been affecting members as a part of the ongoing TAFE restructures. These issues are:

Overlap between Step 2 and Step 3 processes

The CPSU NSW was made aware that some positions at Step 3 of the process were closing before the Step 2 process was due to finish. This meant members who were unsuccessful during the Step 2 process would have missed out on positions available at Step 3 that might have been of interest to them.

Your union has raised this with TAFE, which stated that this should absolutely not have been occurring. If you are aware of any instances of this, please contact us so that we can raise them with TAFE directly and rectify the matter.

Facilities Management & Logistics positions

We also raised with TAFE the similarities between the TWL3 and TWL4 positions in the FM&L restructure; specifically, Security Officers and Facilities Officers. TAFE has not agreed to prioritise the applications of those existing TWL3 employees who are willing to take a TWL4 position. However, TAFE has agreed to provide additional resources for those employees willing to applying for TWL4 positions as a part of the restructure. If Security Officers have already participated in all the Hudson webinars on offer and already used their 1 x 30-minute 1:1 session with a dedicated career coach, TAFE will extend an additional offer of 1:1 coaching for those who want to apply for the Facilities Management Officer roles when they become available at Step 3. The process that can be followed by affected TAFE NSW FM&L employees to take up this offer of additional support is for:

  1. Contact the CPSU NSW to advise they would like to accept the offer.
  2. We will then email Mike Haynes in the ODP team with list of names of affected TAFE FM&L employees.
  3. The ODP team will check whether the TAFE employees have undertaken all webinars on offer and already used their 1 x 30-minute 1:1 session with a dedicated career coach.
  4. The ODP team will then reach out to those particular TAFE NSW FM&L employees.
  5. Following a conversation with the TAFE NSW FM&L employees, the ODP team will contact Hudson and organise for Hudson career coach to facilitate additional 1:1 session.

As always, the CPSU NSW is continuing to fight on your behalf during these difficult times. We are here for you if you have any questions regarding the restructure, or if you need advice and support. In the meantime, if you know of anybody who isn’t a union member but would like to join, they can join online .  We are stronger as a collective and acting in union is the only way that we will be able to stand up and fight against TAFE’s blatant cost-cutting measures.
