State Records Authority meeting with management – March 2016 (PDF version)

Market sounding for Government Records Repository – meeting with management.

É«ÀÇÉçÇøAssistant General Secretary Steve Turner and É«ÀÇÉçÇøindustrial staff met with State Records Authority (SRA) Director Geoff Hinchcliffe on Monday, 24 March 2016. The meeting was to to clarify the information which underpinned his 12 February notification to all SRA staff that the Government had begun initial discussions with the market to sound out potential options for the future.

The purpose of this meeting was to ascertain which aspects of the Government Records Repository had been targeted for privatisation and to register the PSA’s fundamental opposition to any move to the private sector.

Outcomes we achieved from the meeting were positive with management acknowledging the following:

  • The Kingswood facility will remain within government hands
  • GRR management will inform the É«ÀÇÉçÇøof any outcome of its ‘market sounding’ along with staff in May/June
  • Management will inform the É«ÀÇÉçÇøupfront if members will be affected
  • Management informed the É«ÀÇÉçÇøany recommendation to shift government records to the private sector will exclude any archival material that is more than 25 years old; and any public documents of historical value.

Your union requested management inform the É«ÀÇÉçÇøof any recommendations before the final decision is made to allow time for us to lobby the minister and management to not implement any negative recommendations, especially around outsourcing.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøwill now seek a meeting with Minister Dominic Perrottet, with delegates, to confirm the outcomes above and that management will inform us upfront if our members will be affected.
