Special Constables – Work Bans to continue – June 2018 (PDF version)

É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers commenced work bans in Special Constables last week in response to the release of completely inadequate Role Descriptions that severely and deliberately undervalue the important and difficult work you all do. Further information is available in the original bulletin HERE.

NSW Police offered to meet with the É«ÀÇÉçÇøto discuss the matter, on the conditions the work bans be lifted. After consultation with your delegates, a counter-offer was put to NSW Police to lift the work bans on the condition that the inadequate Role Descriptions be retracted pending immediate review.

This offer has been rejected and as such, the work bans remain in place until directives otherwise are issued by the PSA.

All members who have taken part, including a significant cohort of recently joined members, are to be commended for standing up for their rights at work. Encourage any colleagues who are yet to sign up to do so in order to add power to your collective voice!

Members are reminded:

  • this industrial action has been approved by the General Secretary of the Public Service Association
  • any direction to perform work covered by these bans can and should be refused
  • if members are approached to complete work covered by the É«ÀÇÉçÇøindustrial bans, they should decline and refer their manager to this document.

Make sure your colleagues are protected, too

Only union members are protected when taking industrial action or following work bans. Speak to your colleagues about joining the union today to make sure they are protected. New members can participate once they have joined online or printed off and returned a membership form available HERE.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøwill have no hesitation enforcing your collective rights in the Industrial Relations Commission.

Your Special Constables Advisory Group delegates are:

  • Dannie Abel
  • Tony Saraceno
  • Alex Muirhead
  • Glenn Smith
