ɫ������requests urgent meeting about lifting the pause on forced redundancies

The ɫ������has been notified of the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) decision to lift the pause on forced redundancies. In the notification to the unions of its decision to resume forced redundancies, TfNSW stated it was “time to start working towards a new normal”. While TfNSW may consider job cuts and forced redundancies “normal”, the ɫ������believes there should be a greater focus on job protection and creation in order to ensure an economic recovery.

The ɫ������is deeply concerned the decision to lift the pause on forced redundancies is being made before the full economic impact of the pandemic has been seen. It is ludicrous the Government claims publically to be focussed on jobs, while allowing TfNSW to resume making people forcibly redundant.

Note: It is important to note that due to the legislated amendments secured by the ɫ������and combined unions, RMS Award-covered staff (as of the time of the dissolution) still cannot be made forcibly redundant. Nothing in this announcement changes this protection for former RMS staff.

The ɫ������has notified TfNSW that an urgent meeting is required to discuss this decision. Until this meeting is held the ɫ������has requested that no employee is declared excess.
