É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers at Health met last week and have passed a motion calling on the Ministry to do more for staff on mental health in the workplace.
The motion was in support of a resolution passed by delegates to the inaugural É«ÀÇÉçÇøMental Health Conference held on 9 October 2018.
NSW is one of the only states that do not have a mental health strategy for their own staff.
Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia, and Queensland all have mental health plans for their public services, yet more people develop mental illness working for the NSW Government than at any other employer in the country.
MoH members call on the Ministry to take action
Members attending the É«ÀÇÉçÇømeeting on 10 October 2018 passed the following motion calling on the Ministry to take immediate action for its own staff:
This meeting of É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers supports the É«ÀÇÉçÇøMental Health Conference motion calling on the NSW Government to develop, in consultation with unions, a mental health strategy for the entire Public Sector.
As É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers at the Ministry of Health we now call on the Ministry to develop a mental health strategy, in consultation with the Public Service Association of NSW, to ensure all Ministry employees are healthy and safe at work.
We will be tabling the motion at the Ministry of Health Joint Consultative Committee meeting tomorrow and will report back to members on the Ministry’s response.
