É«ÀÇÉçÇøDirection Court and Sound Reporters not to fill in for Agency Contractors
8 November 2018
The Department of Justice has not employed Court and Sound Reporters in the Reporting Services Branch since 2007.
The Department has instead engaged Agency Contractors to work in specific courts.
The Department of Justice advised at the recent JCC that it would not be employing Court or Sound Reporters to work in courts allocated to the newly appointed District Court Judges but would be engaging Agency Contractors instead.
The Department of Justice clearly does not value the skill and expertise that you provide to the Justice system.
The É«ÀÇÉçÇøhas become aware that Court and Sound Reporters are being asked to fill in for Agency Contractors in contractor-assigned courts.
This is unacceptable.
The É«ÀÇÉçÇøissues the following direction in relation to this practice:
That Court and Sound Reporters not cover courts assigned to Agency Contractors.
You are protected under this direction:
- This direction has been approved by the General Secretary of the Public Service Association.
- Any direction by the Department to cover the work of Agency Contractors should be refused.
- If members are approached to work in courts covered by Agency Contractors they should decline and refer their Manager to this document.
