É«ÀÇÉçÇø(CPSU) International Office Bulletin
23 June 2015
On 16 June 2015, the É«ÀÇÉçÇø(CPSU) wrote to the University of Newcastle with a dispute notification regarding the International Office restructure. A copy of the notification can be read .
The dispute arose during the consultation process when the É«ÀÇÉçÇø(CPSU) was informed the positions in the new structure would all be permanent. However, when the university’s final structure was released, there were four fixed-term positions.
On 17 June 2015 the É«ÀÇÉçÇø(CPSU) met with university management. We put to them this was a breach of good faith and did not constitute proper consultation. Management’s response was this change was made after the plan was provided to the Vice-Chancellor.
The É«ÀÇÉçÇø(CPSU) stated we found management’s response unsatisfactory. Nevertheless it was agreed we would reconvene if management could supply us with a written rationale of the change. They agreed to do this as soon as possible.
Management have asked if the É«ÀÇÉçÇø(CPSU) will agree to allow the permanent positions to be advertised. Feedback is sought from members who may have wanted to apply for those positions.
