Following concerns raised with the union by members and delegates over the last week, the Public Service Association met again with senior representatives from the Department of Education to continue discussions around the recruitment and appointment of staff throughout restructures.
Members were particularly concerned around the external advertisement of roles while large numbers of staff will potentially be displaced in the coming months.
The Association pushed for additional placement processes prior to external advertisement, including preferential treatment for internal applicants across the Department. It is our view that limiting placement to existing talent pools does not allow for an organisation wide view that supports current staff to maintain their employment with the department and retention of the maximum number of staff possible.
