Know Your Rights: NSW Education – Office Presence and Flexible Work

  16 April 2025

With the updated Flexible Working Procedure due to commence, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøis continuing to advocate for best practice flexible working options in your workplace and will support members to access flexibility.  We have engaged in extensive consultation over the updated Flexible Work Arrangements Procedure, and the important principles that underpin it, to promote flexibility for all roles on an ‘If Not, Why Not?’  basis.

The updated flexible work procedure will come into effect on Day 1, Term 2 (Monday, 28 April). The É«ÀÇÉçÇøhas been briefed, and we will continue to engage with the department throughout the implementation of the updated procedure.

The period from 28 April – 18 July 2025 will allow you to transition to the new arrangements.

From 28 April 2025, you will need to book a space to work from an office, via the InOffice App. The app will include a list of offices and workstations applicable to your role, noting that not all offices and not all workstations will be available to all employees.

All staff will need to have a flexible work arrangement in place by 18 July 2025.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøwill continue to advocate for equitable and reasonable flexible working approvals.

At this stage the É«ÀÇÉçÇøhas prepared a brief FACT SHEET

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøexpects managers and supervisors to be well informed about the expectations and implementation of the flexible work procedure. This will include Deputy Secretaries meeting about the use of accommodation, and work to ensure correct role headquarters in SAP. We anticipate there will be a requirement to manage some arrangements on a case-by-case basis.

You will find a guide for employees on flexible work options, how to apply for different flexible work options, and linked forms, templates for email approvals and example arrangements and scenarios on the department’s intranet. The É«ÀÇÉçÇøwill be tracking member feedback to ensure that information is easily accessible.

In preparation for implementation, we recommend over coming weeks that you discuss with your team and manager your preferences, and the service delivery requirements of your team.

Your É«ÀÇÉçÇødelegates are also available to assist you and remember, if you have individual concerns, please contact the É«ÀÇÉçÇøMember Support Centre for advice and support.
