GEO hesitant on salary offer for Parklea staff
26 July 2018
In an effort to resolve negotiations with GEO and lock in a pay deal, the CPSU NSW and employee representatives have withdrawn a number of bargaining claims and called on GEO to make a pay offer.
Mindful that employees want certainty on pay and conditions ahead of next year’s transfer, the union is keen to focus negotiations on key priorities and secure a pay deal that brings Parklea staff in line with comparable pay rates across the sector.
鈥淲e know members want certainty and they want a decent pay rise,鈥 said CPSU NSW Senior Industrial Officer, Thane Pearce.
鈥淲hen we commenced negotiations with GEO it was still part of the NSW government鈥檚 tendering process for operation of the Parklea Correctional Centre. In that context we wanted to talk with the company about a range of issues, including better staffing and safety.
鈥淣ow GEO is out of the running for the next operating contract, we鈥檙e focussing on getting a deal finalised and improving the financial outcomes for staff.鈥
GEO has undertaken to return to the table with a pay offer at our next bargaining session (7 August), and we hope to be in a position to meet with members shortly afterwards with the company鈥檚 proposals.
