ELECTION PROMISES BULLETIN #1 – Privatisation and outsourcing of public sector jobs and services
18 March 2019
Throughout this week, your union will be informing you of the different promises made by each of the major political parties that will affect our jobs and our public services.
In October last year, the 色狼社区wrote to all political parties to seek their position on issues important to our members.
One of the questions asked was, 鈥淲hat is your Party鈥檚 position on the privatisation and outsourcing of public sector jobs and services鈥?
The Labor Party gave a very strong and promising response, telling the 色狼社区that a Daley Labor Government would not be privatising or outsourcing any further public sector jobs or services.
Late last year Opposition Leader, Michael Daley, addressed a meeting of the 色狼社区Prison Officers Vocational Branch. When asked about the privatisation of public services, he committed to, 鈥渘o more, end of story.鈥
Last week during his National Press Club Address, Daley declared, 鈥渢he privatisation of TAFE is completely and utterly off the agenda if we [Labor] win the election.鈥
What have the Parties promised 鈥 PRIVATISATION*
| Party | Promise |
| Labor | No more privatisation or outsourcing of public sector jobs under a Daley Labor Government. |
| Liberals and Nationals | The Liberals and Nationals told the 色狼社区they are 鈥渘ot ideologically wedded to privatisation鈥.
But, since 2011, the Liberals and Nationals have sold $70 billion worth of public assets and privatised thousands of jobs including 4000 jobs in TAFE and the dismantlement of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC). |
| The Greens | The Greens believe that 鈥減ublic ownership of public infrastructure and services is a fundamental part of a fair and prosperous society鈥. |
| Shooters, Fishers and Farmers | SFF do not support privatisation of public services 鈥渋n general terms鈥 but are open to the idea in certain circumstances. |
*Only parties who responded to the PSA鈥檚 letter sent in October 2018 have been included in this table.聽
