The É«ÀÇÉçÇøwelcomes Minister Elliott’s announcement on Friday, 4 November 2016 that Juvenile Justice is to receive $ 1 million training package to support frontline staff in managing high-risk detainees.
But this is not enough.
The announcement was in recognition of the PSA’s push for better safety and security measures after the recent unprovoked assault at Cobham.
However, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøbelieves training is only one part and we need to see there is a re-establishment of the Chisholm Behaviour Program in managing these high-risk detainees.
Each and every day you, like our member from Cobham, face this same risk and we say this is enough. You have the right to go home safe.
However, the system has failed you.
The É«ÀÇÉçÇøand delegates are working closely with Juvenile Justice on how and what training will be delivered to aid you in working with these high-risk detainees. But we also ask you what other steps do you feel are needed in allowing you to undertake your duties.
I would encourage you to speak with your local workplace delegates or contact your Departmental Committee delegates to ensure that your voice is heard.
