First Meeting of the É«ÀÇÉçÇøTransport for NSW – Departmental Committee
The first ever meeting of the É«ÀÇÉçÇøTransport for NSW Departmental Committee (DC) was held at É«ÀÇÉçÇøHouse on 12 May 2016, following the elections in March.
É«ÀÇÉçÇøDelegates across TfNSW came together to start working on those issues which affect É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers in Transport.
The key areas for the DC were around the reform program and the Award negotiations which began on the same day and were attended by DC Delegates.
In addition, the DC also held discussions around better communications to members (particularly in relation to É«ÀÇÉçÇøand union achievements such as the last Award pay increases) and dignity and respect in the workplace.
Discussions were also held around the current consultative arrangements between the unions and Transport with a view that these need to be improved.
The DC is the peak delegate body for É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers in Transport. It has an important role to enquire into, consider and report to and advise the É«ÀÇÉçÇøupon matters of concern to members.

We still have three vacant Metropolitan and one Regional, Newcastle vacancy on the DC. Members interested in becoming involved should enquire through
2016 Award negotiations
Negotiations for the 2016 Award commenced on 12 May 2016. The State Government’s policy dictates that agreement has to be reached before the end of June 2016. This will ensure members receive the 2.5 percent pay increase as of the first pay period of July.
Prior to the second bargaining meeting on 19 May 2016, both sides will present their log of claims.
The É«ÀÇÉçÇøis aware, however, that the only claim so far from Transport is for the shift-work arrangements extending from the Transport Management Centre (TMC).
The É«ÀÇÉçÇøparticipated in a number of joint union member briefings across TfNSW prior to commencement of negotiations. However, we are aware many members may not have been able to attend these meetings or there may not have been a meeting held at their workplace.
Reform program
The combined unions have raised a number of concerns with Unions NSW over the current reform program to progress with Transport management.
The three main areas of most concern are:
- consultation
- placement process
- ongoing roles being converted to temporary.
