The future is much brighter with a strong union behind you.

The winter issue of Red Tape looks at how our state is facing the future and the vital role our members play creating a safer, fairer, cleaner state. And backing up these members is a union dedicated to ensuring they receive the pay, conditions and protections they deserve.

The future of our workplaces was just one of the topics discussed at our annual conference. Red Tape looks at the array of speakers and delegates who made this year’s conference such a success.

As part of the country’s largest social justice movement, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW is taking action to improve the lives of everyone in out state.

Read up on our campaign to get a statewide government response to the domestic violence crisis afflicting NSW. We talk to people who have survived violence in home, the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW members who work with them and outline how a coordinated, government-led response will save lives.

We also look at the report our union published on the housing crisis that is seeing members pay huge sums in rent, live hours from their workplaces and even face the prospect of homelessness. Our report outlines the issues at stake and gives suggestions on how our governments can fix a growing problem.

We also look at the $1000 cost-of-living adjustment won by our union to help members address spiralling inflation.

We go behind the scenes at a rally to save Goulburn Gaol and look at our work improving the conditions of our members in schools.

As always, Red Tape has thought-provoking columns, news developments, and book and podcast reviews.

When a crisis strikes our state, É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW members take action.

This Autumn edition of Red Tape tells the story of just some of the hard-working members responding to the crises that have regularly our state.

Domestic violence remains one of the most urgent challenges facing NSW. Police receive a domestic violence call every three minutes.

Responding to this crisis are our members, including the Mount Druitt Family Violence Service, a vital centre that provides life-saving assistance to people escaping violent homes.

Twice slated for closure, the service helps people secure housing, navigate legal systems, access income support and rebuild lives.

We also discuss the vital roles played by our members at Homes NSW and those working with offenders in the correctives system.

We also talk to members in Police, who are on call 24-7 working alongside officers in the fight against crime.

We celebrate the É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers from the State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue, and other agencies who are on the ground when floods rise, bushfires burn, and storms tear through communities.

In this issue, we celebrate our wins in Transport for NSW, Service NSW and monitor our progress in cutting down our excessive number of senior executives.

We also update readers about negotiations in our universities, as well as disability services provider Aruma, where members overwhelmingly rejected a substandard enterprise agreement offered by the employer.

The current issue talks to a member in Local Land Services who is protecting the state against a surge in feral animals.

As always, Red Tape is brimming with news, opinion pieces and the best in books and podcasts. Most of all, it is a snapshot of a workforce that protects, supports and strengthens NSW every day.

The latest issue of Red Tape celebrates the members who do so much to make NSW one of the finest places on the planet to live, work and learn.

Our union represents psychologists working to make NSW a safer, healthier place to live. The current issue looks at what these hardworking members do at work, the issues they face and how they deal with confronting matters they encounter. We also go into why the É«ÀÇÉçÇøis fighting to ensure they get better pay and conditions for their essential work.

For 95 years, our union’s Women’s Council has been at the heart of our fight for issues such as workplace equality, especially for women.

Red Tape was at this year’s Women’s Conference, as inspirational and informative presentations helped celebrate our council’s remarkable milestone while reaffirming our commitment to fight for equal pay, equal superannuation, and the end of workplace harassment.

As always, a stellar array of speakers entertained, inspired and educated our attendees.

Red Tape also looks at the job cuts afflicting our workplaces, and how our union is fighting back to ensure our members remain in secure roles doing what they do best, working for NSW.

We look at our protest at the Art Gallery of NSW, where more than 40 jobs are at risk, and what is happening in the state’s university sector.

We join members in Youth Justice, who took action when a recurring pay office error was not rectified.

As usual, Red Tape has a great mix of reviews, opinion pieces and news stories. And a crossword for your downtime.

The current issue looks at how our union campaigned, and won, bringing Parklea Prison back into the state system and striking yet another blow against the relentless privatisation agenda that has blighted our state for decades.

The current issue looks at the fight against privatisation and our push for better public services.

Red Tape also looks back at the 2025 Annual Conference, opened by the Premier and featuring an excellent array of speakers and forums that help us create a better union for all our members.

As we all know, Public Services Matter. The autumn edition goes into the important role public services play in the lives of people in NSW and Australia.

With opposition leader Peter Dutton basing his election campaign on public sector cutbacks, Red Tape issues a timely reminder of just how vital well-funded government services are to our society.

We look at our members working on behalf of the people of NSW and show why the Coalition has chosen the wrong target to attack in its misguided campaign.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is one of the oldest organisations of its type in the world. The É«ÀÇÉçÇøis proud to represent the members who do so much protect our state’s varied environment. From snowy peaks to subtropical forests and desert landscapes, our members are performing vital work all over NSW. This issue of Red Tape looks just some of at the excellent work they do.

We also celebrate success our campaigns have done with the handover of Junee Correctional Centre to the public sector.

The current issue of Red Tape follows our Aboriginal Council members as they celebrate the survival of their culture at the annual Yabun festival. We also look at attacks on diversity in our workplaces, and why workers are reluctant to use domestic violence leave.

As always, the magazine is full of incisive columns, up-to-date news stories and the latest in books and podcasts.

Whether you receive it in the mail or read it via our website, we hope you enjoy the autumn edition of the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW’s magazine, Red Tape.

The summer edition of Red Tape has started arriving in members’ mailboxes.

This issue demonstrates the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW is a union that wins for its members. This year we’ve had school staff start the year in permanent roles, a public sector pay rise unshackled by the wage cap and private prison handed over to Corrective Services NSW.

We’ve fought hard and won uplifts for Sheriff’s Officers, Fisheries Officers and Special Constables. We’ve negotiated Enterprise Agreements for universities that include groundbreaking conditions for our members. And we’ve had massive improvements in Child Protection gradings and a commitment from the government to rein in outsourcing.

Our members in SafeWork have won extra vigilance on the job and your union has negotiated a better deal for workers at Transport for NSW.

This issue talks about these big wins for our members, and what goes on behind the scenes to achieve them.

In addition, we look at the tragic Officer A case, where an attempted escape left one man dead and a Correctives Officer facing two harrowing trials for murder.

Readers can catch up on news, opinion pieces and the best in books and podcasts.

It’s a winning read for a winning union.

The Spring issue of Red Tape is out now.

The latest issue of the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW magazine follows our vital Sheriff’s Officers as they walk off the job all over the state, letting NSW know they are undervalued, understaffed and underpaid.

These Champions of the State have rallied to let the State Government know they deserve better.

We also feature our vital members working in NSW schools. We talk to some of the hard-working staff in school offices, classrooms and grounds, keeping the state’s first-rate education system running.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøis always fighting for its members in schools. In 2019, we won the long-running pay equity case for this female-dominated workforce. After the last state election, we converted thousands of workers to permanent positions. Now we are fighting to make schools safer for our members.

We also travel the state to see how our members marked É«ÀÇÉçÇøSchools Recognition Week.

É«ÀÇÉçÇøHouse recently hosted our annual Women’s Conference. Women unionists from all over NSW gathered to listen to amazing speakers and share ideas that will further transform our workplaces. Our union is 65 per cent women and is proud of its trailblazing efforts throughout its history for more equitable workplaces.

We keep up with our long-running campaign to improve the NSW Child Protection system and look at why the state’s Fisheries Officers deserve better.

As usual, we have a mix of news stories, thought-provoking opinion pieces and book and podcast reviews.

The winter edition of Red Tape celebrates 125 years of union wins.

The group of men meeting  in Bridge Street in 1899 in 1899 would never have imagined that 125 years later a 40,000-member union would be fighting for the rights of NSW wokers.

The PSA’s 125th anniversary was the theme at this year’s annual conference. Red Tape relives the event, the guest speakers, and the award winners.

Our 125th birthday also gives us a chance to look back at the role the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW played in ridding NSW of a state government addicted to privatisation and wage suppression.

Our Child Protection in Crisis campaign continues, with staff walking out to save a system that is struggling to safeguard our most vulnerable kids. We cover the walkouts and talk about why this is so important for everyone in NSW.

Elsewhere we look at our new Junee office, celebrate a big win in Multicultural NSW and look at the future of public sector jobs in regional NSW.

As always, Red Tape has incisive columns, up-to-date news stories and the latest in books and podcasts.

We hope you enjoy the winter edition of the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW’s flagship magazine, Red Tape.

The cover story for the Autumn issue of Red Tape chronicles the neglect and outright vandalism of a much-loved Sydney institution, the Powerhouse Museum.

The museum has been a vital part of Sydney’s cultural life since 1988, yet has become a political football for the State Government.

Our feature covers this decline, including a rally organised by the É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW to return the museum’s Ultimo location to its rightful place as a major component of our cultural landscape.

The latest issue of our magazine also examines the shameful way our justice system is allowing domestic violence offenders to serve their sentences in the community, often with no supervision.

Every week, an Australian woman is killed by a current or former partner. The NSW Government needs to take domestic violence seriously with proper sentencing and rehabilitation.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøCPSU NSW is continuing its Child Protection in Crisis campaign. Your union is determined to work with our members in Community Services to improve the outcomes on behalf of some of the most vulnerable people in the state. The current issue looks at why protecting vulnerable children is union business.

Red Tape’s new pages are always a great way to keep up with events affecting our members. The Autun issue looks at prison mothballing, the members who clean up pollution and we profile a General Assistant making a huge difference for his school. The magazine has a story on job cuts at the Art Gallery of NSW, looks into a pay rise for School Psychologists and we profile to a member who has spent 50 years keeping our highways safe.

As always, Red Tape includes incisive columns, an update of member benefits and the best in books and podcasts.

For a video update on Red Tape from General Secretary Stewart Little, click .

The current issue is in the post right now. It can also be read on the PSA and CPSU NSW websites. You can also go to to Red Tape online any time.
