At the Town Hall meeting on 15 September 2026 attended by É«ÀÇÉçÇørepresentatives, management outlined a proposed structure based on three core functions;

• Production and Content Investment
• Industry and Audience Development
• Infrastructure and Operations

Management indicates the proposed structure is intended to provide clearer accountabilities, strengthen executive oversight, support more effective decision making and service delivery.

What should you look at?

Excursion Requirements

Prior approval for excursions and camps must always be sourced by the Principal and the Director Educational Leadership (DEL) before attendance. School organisation will identify the need for SLSO attendance.

While you are on camp, maintain a daily diary of activities, tasks, hours worked and meal breaks. If on overnight camps, keep a record of sleep breaks. This documentation may be required to support overtime claims. Schools may distribute an Expression of Interest to gather SLSO interest in attending excursions or camps.

SLSO’s should complete the required forms listed below:

• Pre-approval form- school internal
• Detailed itinerary- drafted ahead of time – school internal
• Timesheet tracking- school internal
• SAP claim submission- recorded hours are submitted to SAP/HR by the school SAM to process the overtime payment.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇørecommends SLSOs keep a copy for your own reference.

Role of a Support Person

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøand your delegates are here to support you if you face issues at work. Your É«ÀÇÉçÇøOrganiser can provide you with support, advice and representation. Just as your É«ÀÇÉçÇørepresentative can provide support so can your local delegate, trusted family member, friend or colleague. This support is in place to ensure that you are protected and afforded natural justice and procedural fairness.

Thriving Kids

The Public Service Association’s Principal Policy Analyst addressed the Special Education Working Group and gathered information about the Thriving Kids Program being rolled out by the Department. The É«ÀÇÉçÇøis establishing how much knowledge schools have about the program and the workload impact. The initial rollout of the program is planned for October 2026 with seemingly little knowledge in schools. The Thriving Kids Program is targeted at students from 0 to 8 years old in government pre-schools and schools with Allied Health Professional support needs, who are not accessing the NDIS.

Commercial Development and Management representatives have provided the change management plan (CMP) to the É«ÀÇÉçÇøon 4 September and have met with all affected staff.

While there are more roles in the proposed organisational structure (153 from 152), there are differences in the number of roles at certain grades which does not provide for direct placements of all affected staff. The proposal however identifies lifts and shifts of branches, approximately 70 staff for direct appointment and a significant portion of the affected staff through pooled assessments.

The CMP, apart from providing some rationale for the proposed change, provides details on the placement options of all proposed roles. It has also provided detail on the current vacancies that will be subject to recruitment actions.

As part of the industrial obligations on the agency, Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is required to consult with the É«ÀÇÉçÇøover matters of workplace reform. The É«ÀÇÉçÇøencourages members to provide their feedback to the proposed reform internally to Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure as well as the PSA.

All claims have now been tabled and preliminary discussions have taken place. A number of matters have been extensively discussed including the Professional Planning and Development (PP&D), position descriptions, recruitment, flexibility and performance management. Key updates from the latest sessions of bargaining are below.

Artificial Intelligence protections

Negotiations have achieved some concessions on AI from the University. Disagreement between other parties has led discussions to stall this week. CPSU will continue our work to push this issue forward in negotiations.

Change management

A variety of claims have been put forward by the University which risk existing protections. Your union has consistently prioritised the need for fair processes and minimising impact on psychosocial health. We’re currently fighting to hold on to existing protections in change processes.

Schedules impacting the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney (UVTHS) and Protective Services staff

CPSU is attempting to assert consistent standards for our colleagues whose roles the University does not neatly fit into the enterprise agreement.

Our claims to change Schedule 6 have been partially accepted. The University has countered those parts of our claim that it rejected. This will return to the agenda in coming weeks.

Our claims in relation to Protective Services are underway and we will continue to push for a realistic and fair approach to rostering, leave cover and remuneration in coming weeks.
