With much of the employees coming off the Copied State Awards that have protected existing pay and conditions, the sector is about to commence Enterprise Bargaining as unions and employers negotiate new employment arrangements.

Without a strong union stating their case, Disability Support Workers would be at the mercy of employers who are already looking to cut roles, reduce pay and slash conditions

This is why the CPSU NSW is working hard for Disability Support Workers demanding they receive every cent of the pay and conditions they deserve.

Universities should be doing everything possible to ensure the wages, conditions and jobs of all university staff are maintained and protected. This includes Professional Staff who are essential to the operation of universities. Professional Staff ensure students receive a world-standard and equitable higher education.

Universities must exhaust all other avenues to reduce costs, if the Federal Government will not step in, rather than cutting wages, conditions and jobs.

This is why the CPSU NSW is campaigning to increase the recognition of the essential work that Professional Staff perform.

The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed our state. Jobs have been lost, hours cut, and pay and work practices changed significantly. NSW unions want to see a Jobs Plan as part of reconstructing the state鈥檚 economy. This plan as all about creating secure jobs, guaranteeing secure income for casuals, addressing underemployment and investing in skills and training for the future. Working women have been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic. TAFE vocational education must address this problem. The failed NSW Smart and Skilled policy must be scrapped.

TAFE must be at the centre of this Jobs Plan by providing high quality vocational education in metropolitan, regional, rural colleges and digital platforms.

For TAFE NSW to be central to this recovery it must be:

• Fully funded by government
• Free for students
• At the heart of building a COVID and post COVID-19 economy, boosting careers in areas such as child care, aged care, disability services and hospitality
• At the centre of training for an environmentally sustainable future
• Modern, with up-to-date facilities, innovative research facilities and permanent and well-supported staff. That is done in consultation with the relevant unions.
