From 3-10 July, Australia will mark NAIDOC Week, which celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and recognises Indigenous people’s contributions to our country.

Songline: A Living Narrative is the theme for the week in 2016.

Just over three percent of É«ÀÇÉçÇømembers identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, while many members work in departments such as the Aboriginal Housing Office.

NAIDOC has a useful to visit for ideas on how to celebrate the world’s oldest continual culture.

Local councils such as the , and the new will be putting on community events to mark the week.

Check local websites for other council events.

The É«ÀÇÉçÇøhas recently appointed Ann Weldon as Aboriginal Liaison Officer on a six-month posting.

A member of the Kalar River people, in the Wiradjuri nation, Ms Weldon has worked at AHDC Burwood, in the Community Support Team – Sydney Local District, since 2015.

Before then, she was at the Metro North Region – Parramatta Local Office and the Rosebery ADHC Office for Metro South Region.

She is also a Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land  Council Board Member and Elder.

I had the privilege of speaking to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy at Congress as a É«ÀÇÉçÇørepresentative.
